Installation Questions

I placed the CD into my CD-ROM drive, but the installation process did not start up automatically. Is there something wrong?

Probably not. The game's CD is setup to run the installation automatically upon insertion into the CD-ROM drive, but the ability for your PC to run programs on CD automatically is an option that may be turned off. If this is the case, just run the Setup.bat file that is on the CD. You can do this by using the Run entry of the Start button, browsing until you find the Setup.bat file on the CD, and clicking on OK. It would also be possible to use Windows Explorer or My Computer to navigate to the CD and then double-click on the Setup file.

My system configuration is not listed in the help file as one of the ones that this game has been tested on. Will it still work on my PC?

Without knowing the specifics of your configuration, it is impossible to give an absolute answer, but if you are using an IBM-compatible PC that runs Windows 95 or better (Windows 98, Windows NT, Windows ME, etc.), then the answer is probably "Yes." The list of tested machines is not an all inclusive list of computers that will run the game. It just shows a sample of the different types of configurations that have been tested.

Can I install the game in the folder of my choice?

Yes! The setup program that installs the game will ask you for the name of the folder (also called the directory) for installation of the game. You can use the default folder that is listed there, type in the full path of a different folder, or click on the Browse button to find the folder of your choice. You can even type in the name (including the full path) of a folder that doesn't exist, and the setup program will create it for you.

Do I really need to close all my other applications to run the installation?

While it is not absolutely necessary to do this, it is recommended. Since many Windows applications use the same system files, the game's installation process may need to load a file that is currently in use by another program. The setup program will attempt to handle this situation and ask you to restart when it has completed. It is still a good idea to have as few applications running as possible when installing any new application.

What is the "Backup" folder that was created as a sub-folder of the game's folder?

The "Backup" folder contains any files that the setup program determined were needed to be replaced during the installation process.

How can I be sure that there are no viruses on the installation CD?

At the time that the master CD was created for the game, it was scanned using the latest technology and the most current virus definition files available.

If I choose not to register during the installation process, can I register at a later time?

Absolutely! The same registration window is available from the game's main window under the Help menu.

I'm trying to install the game's question editor on my Windows 7 64-bit operating system and it keeps telling me that it's not compatible with the 64-bit version of Windows.  Is Bible Grand Slam not compatible with this version of Windows?

Bible Grand Slam is compatible with both the Vista and 7 64-bit version of Windows.  The one thing that is not compatible is the question editor that is included with your game.  But, there is an update to that editor which will make it work on your system (see Upgrade section below).

Windows XP/VISTA/7 Questions

I heard that to install some of your games in Windows XP, VISTA, or 7 you have to do special stuff.  Do I have to do anything special to install the new version 3.0 of Bible Grand Slam?

No. Some of our older CD's of other programs require special handling when installing to Windows XP or VISTA or 7 because of an incompatibility in the Windows XP/VISTA/7 operating system.  This situation has been handled in the new version 3.0 of Bible Grand Slam.  No special "stuff" is needed unless you are running under a 64-bit version of Windows Vista/7.  Then you need to install an update to the editor (see Upgrade section below).

I'm using Vista and when I click on the Help button in the game all I get is an error message? - Click here to view Help System Online

Microsoft no longer supports the standard Windows Help System that has been in place for every version of Windows up through XP.  Therefore, when you click on Help, you'll just get a warning message about the help system not being supported.  That error message also comes with a link to a page at the Microsoft web site where you can download the system file needed to access the old Windows Help System.  You can also get to that Microsoft page from this link.

Game Startup Questions

There are so many game options on the pre-game screen.  Why so many different options and do I have to go through every time I play to select the ones I want?

Over the years we have received many good recommendations for options in the game.  We have tried to incorporate as many as we could.  Because of so many options, you can play the game twice in a row with different options and have a completely different game experience.  And, no, you don't need to enter them each time.  The game will remember the options from the last time it was played.

Game Play Questions

Why does it seem like some computer players are better than the others?

Some of the computer players are better than the others. Each computer player was created to do well on questions from their own time period. The further away the question gets from their era, the worse they'll do. Questions that address time periods long after their era will be especially challenging for them, but they'll still be able to get some of them correct.

If I choose to have two computer players in a game with the same name, will they play exactly the same and end up in a tie?

No. You can have the same computer name play for both teams during a single game, but each will play as an individual. Each will have the same abilities but will not necessarily play the game in the same manner.

Help System Questions

How do I access the Help System from within the game?

There are four ways to access the Help System. Three of them are from within the game. You can use the Help Topics item under the Help menu of the main window, you can just press F1 from wherever you are, or you can press the Help button on the pre-game screen. The Help Topics menu item will display the Help System's main table of contents. Pressing F1 will display the help topic that is most closely associated with where you are currently in the game. The fourth way is to use the shortcut icon for the help file that was created by the installation program.

Other Questions

I get an error that points to a DLL file. I compared the version in my system folder with the list on this tech support web page and the one on my system is older. Is that a problem? How could that have happened? What do I do about it?

A version of a DLL that is older than the one supplied with this game can cause a problem.

The installation process for this game will only install a DLL if your PC doesn't have it or the version on your PC is older. If you have an older version on your PC, that means that some other application's installation has overwritten the one supplied with this game without comparing the version information. Ideally, this should not happen, but with the proliferation of freeware and shareware on the market, it is possible because a programmer may not have allowed for this when creating their installation processes.

The first thing to try is to reinstall this game. It should overwrite the older DLL. If you have successfully played this game and are worried about overwriting this game's saved games and history, then relax. Once you have played this game on your computer, these files have been updated and will not be overwritten by the installation process.

When I originally installed the game it created a shortcut with an icon that had only a couple of colors. Now, I've upgraded my monitor to High Color. Can I still get the fancier icon for my shortcuts?

Sure! To change to the game's main icon, access the "properties" of the shortcut for the game, select the "change icon" button, point the File Name to the BibleGrandSlam.exe file, and then choose an icon.

Where can I go to get more help?

Installation Requirements

The system requirements necessary to run Bible Grand Slam™ are as follows:

CPU Pentium or better
Pentium-100 to run game/Pentium-300 recommended for acceptable animation/Pentium-400 for better animation. (equivalent processors from other manufacturers are acceptable)
Operating System Windows 95 or higher The program must be run in a 32-bit environment like Windows 95. It has been tested on Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows 98 SE, Windows ME, Windows NT, and Windows XP.
RAM Memory n/a No specific amount of RAM memory is required--just whatever would be required to run the version of Windows on the host computer. The more RAM you have, the better!
Hard Disk Space 20mb/10mb The maximum amount of hard disk space required for installation of the game is 20 mb. This amount required will vary depending on how many of the system control files have already been installed on the host computer by other applications. If a computer has all of the system files already installed, this game will use a minimum amount of 10 mb of hard disk space.
CD-ROM Drive Any Speed A CD-ROM drive is required for installation of the game. Once the game has been installed, the CD-ROM will no longer be needed. All files necessary for running the game will be loaded onto the hard drive.
Mouse Recommended A mouse or other pointing device is highly recommended for use with the game, but there still are enough short-cut key combinations to play the game without one.
Sound Card Recommended The game will work just fine without a sound card to play the game's sounds, but the enjoyment of the game will be greatly enhanced by hearing the sounds.
Colors High Color Recommended To obtain the maximum visual experience, it is recommended that your display be at least 800 x 600 with a color setting above 256 color.

Alternate Icons: There are several alternate icons provided with Bible Grand Slam™. To change to a different icon, access the "properties" of the shortcut for the game, select the "change icon" button, point the File Name to the BibleGrandSlam.exe file, and then choose an icon.

Upgrade Info

Bible Grand Slam V2.1 (235kb): As the newer computers get faster and faster, the animation in Bible Grand Slam has been increasing in speed as well. This release of Bible Grand Slam slows down the animation so that it can be viewed on fast computers. You can download the upgrade by clicking here. Once you've downloaded the file, navigate to it using My Computer and then double-click on it to unzip it. Then run the program that is unzipped.
BGEVista64setup (740kb): The original editor included with BGS will not run in a 64-bit version of Windows.  This update will install a version of the editor that will work in these systems.  The only caveat is that there is limited functionality in the Reports menu within the editor. Follow these steps to download and install this update:
